*Q: In consideration of Karma when a Master purifies, what is the effect of the previous Karma which was existing? Is the Master taking it with him? What happens with Karma?*
*A: Karma exists as long as we exist to it. There is a little intricacy which I will explain. The word Karma is used in its original sense and in its local sense separately. In its original sense it means the chain actions of the whole Creation and the Universe. In a comparatively lesser sense, the word Karma means 'that which makes you do your work'. It exists as the background of your individuality and personality, it is what we call our nature. It exists as our nature. I have my way of doing things, my way of thinking and my way of reacting to others. Here, that which makes me do all these things is called my previous Karma. This is one sense. It exists in us in the form of the habit of the whole psychological mechanism and in the third sense it means the conditioning of our past Karma, that is, as long as we believe that we are doing these things, that we are maintaining our family, or that we are the cause of the existence of certain people on this Earth. We have our own psychological attachment to people who are around us, and we live with a belief that we belong to them and that they belong to us. We have a belief that we eat our food and we have our taste, we are enjoying our food and our taste, but the truth is, the body requires food and nature has given us a taste to the tongue and the same nature has given appetite to our belly, only to preserve this body and maintain this body, so that the body is useful to the other bodies by way of action or thinking. This is the language of the nature. Viewed from that point of view we have nothing which we call our food and our taste and our way of eating. Viewed from that point of view we do not have anyone as our own person, our own husband or brother, or son or sister. Our biological relationships are not true in its real sense, but they exist to us only because we accept them. Since it is necessary, nature gives us these relationships and nature keeps us under the illusion of our relationships with others, so that we may develop properly when we are in a dormant stage. But because of this illusion we believe that we are doing things. That is called the conditioning of Karma and the result is we suffer from the results of what we believe and do.*
*Suppose, if you are my boss in the office and you asked me to behave with the customers in the shop in a particular way. In your absence, if I try to judge the good and bad of your orders and try to behave in my own way according to what I believe good, what is the result? I will be involved in whatever I do and I will be made answerable for whatever default I commit with you.Suppose I obey you without judging your decisions, then whether good or bad, I am not involved, you are involved. In such a way, we are locally involved with the actions we do for people around ourselves. Because we do not remember that nature is ordering us to behave and do things. This wrong belief of placing myself in the position of the owner or the one who decides the law, makes me receive the blows of whatever I do. When I do in my own way in your shop with your customer, what happens? I will be taken to the court of law by you, according to the rules of my appointment under you. Similarly, whatever we do with the belief that it is ourselves, it is ours, and whatever we do with the belief that these people are our people and this money is mine and this influence belongs to me, then we have the results as miseries. Such results are called the results of our Karma. So, during the first two steps there is nothing like 'our' Karma, there is only Karma. Only in the third step we have 'our' Karma gathered. So, according to the theory of Karma in the Scriptures and the ancient books, what we call our personal Karma is only an illusion created by ourselves with its results, the duration of which is like the duration of a horrible nightmare in our sleep. Suppose that you are in the midst of a very horrible dream surrounded by murderers from every side, there will be the logic of the dream in the next step of the dream, that is, you will find that they are approaching you. The next step is, you begin to try to run away from them, the next step is they chase you, they show you the guns, like that we have the logical sequence in the dream itself. What we call our personal Karma and its effects is only a logical sequence within the dream. Suppose somebody gives a pinch and brings you out of your sleep, when you are in the midst of the horrible dream, what happens to the remaining story of the dream? The same thing happens when the Guru touches you and gives the end of Karma to you. Since the rest of the Karma does not belong to you at all, it belongs to the tissues and the cells of your body and your mind. The plants and animals have no motives in their action, because they have no continuity of their impressions, possessing people or property, they simply eat when they are hungry, they drink only when they are thirsty and they play sex only when there is mating season. They have no personal choice or motive or likes or dislikes, that is why they are pure enough not to admit any personal Karma. Nightmare is only for those who have a possibility of getting a dream of their own. In the same way, personal Karma and the effects are only for the human beings who are capable of doing things for certain motives. When you are once immediately awakened into your consciousness from your logic of your relationship with your environment, there is no consequence. There is no remaining Karma at all.*
*There are many fantastic views about personal Karma, many people teach that it is infallible and it is a curse which lives forever and we have to die in it, etc. It is not true. The Scriptures teach us that karma is not infallible, but the results of the Karma done are infallible. After I have thrown this pen into the air it should be obstructed or resisted and the force should be met with equal and opposite force. After I have thrown this, if I say: "I don't want to throw it", it is not possible to stop the result. But before I throw it, if you come catch my hand, if I withdraw my impulse to throw it, there is no result. So, for the Karma already done there are some results awaiting to take place in the future upon us, for them we have nothing to say, we have to endure and accept with pleasure. But the future Karma can be immediately stopped by the grace of the Guru within a split second and this is what the authoritative books teach us.*
